2026 (So Far)

Moving forward, I’m going to try and use this space a bit more frequently for updates on newly published stories etc. I regularly announce these kinds of things on social media (see the Contact & Connect tab), but for those of you who’ve made the entirely sensible decision to steer clear of that mess, I’ll try to keep things updated here too. In the spirit of catch up, here are my stories that have seen the light of day (or at least gotten a breath of fresh air on the reprint circuit) so far this year:

“I Send You a Kiss” was published in Horror Library Volume 9 from Dark Moon Books. This is my second appearance in this consistently excellent anthology series (see “Skandalopetra” in volume 7) and it’s an honor share a TOC with the likes of Brian Evenson, Bentley Little, Poppy Z. Brite, and many other terrific writers working at the dark end of the street.

“The Head in the Pantry” (originally published in Cosmic Horror Monthly Issue 54) was given the audio treatment on episode 728 of the Tales to Terrify podcast. Stephen Kilpatrick did a terrific job interpreting this piece for the discerning spooky stuff listener. You can find it wherever you get your podcasts.

“Path of Totality” was featured in Frost Zone Stories Book 3. There aren’t many publications left with an explicit focus on quiet horror—a subgenre I often find myself writing in—but this one from Canada is an excellent example. Lots of stories in this issue that are well worth checking out.

“This Was the Planet of Sound” was the final story in Saros Speculative Fiction Issue 5. The content warning provided for the piece is “mass extinction” so yes, it’s pretty dark but still a tiny bit hopeful. All of the stories in the issues take sound and silence as a theme, and it’s fascinating to see the varied ways in which the selected stories interpret this. This was also the first (but hopefully not the last) foray into editing for Ariel Marken Jack, an excellent writer that you should definitely to check out.

Finally, my flash fiction piece “Katabatic” was published on Horror Tree’s Trembling With Fear feature. This one is admittedly pretty strange even by my standards, and I’m honestly not quite sure what to make of it. Creative writing is weird.

2025 Awards Eligibility

Well, it’s been a bit of a year, hasn’t it? I hope this post finds you keeping your head above water and able to celebrate a few accomplishments amidst the chaos that was 2025. In that spirit, here’s my award-eligible writing for the past year:

“Creepshow” in the anthology Poisoned Soup for the Macabre, Depraved, and Insane: Nostalgic Terrors (creative nonfiction, 1000 words)

“The Lesser Devil’s Stairway” in the magazine Illustrated Worlds Issue 10 (short story, 4100 words)

“Pests” in the digital zine Memento Mori Ink: Morsus Vitae Issue 7 (drabble, 100 words)

In non-awards relevant news, my story “The Forest Has No Immediate Plans to Kill You” (originally published in Weird Horror Magazine) was reprinted in Small Wonders Issue 19 and recommended on Reactor. And next year, I’m excited to have forthcoming work in Saros Speculative Fiction, Supernatural Tales, Chthonic Matter Quarterly, Frost Zone Stories, the Tales to Terrify podcast, and a few other publications that I can’t talk about just yet. 2024 Awards Eligibility

So, it was a bit of a year with lots of competing demands on my schedule, but I still managed to get some writing done in the cracks and crevices of time available. Three pieces of my short fiction (two short stories and one flash fiction) saw publication this year and are eligible for award consideration:

2023 Awards Eligibility
